👰♂️ The RONAREADer is getting married and going on their honeymoon! Instead of dipping into the archives, we’re sharing some of the most exciting new releases (or NEWBIES) we’ve been provided by publishers over the last year or so. We’ll be back to our regular programming in June! See ya soon! 👰♂️
The Factchecker by Austin Kelley
New York City, 2004: The Factchecker thought he was just glancing at a regular degular piece about a local farmer’s market where the Ramapo tomatoes are particularly popular. But when a woman named Sylvia is quoted referring to “nefarious business” at the market and then disappears the following morning, the Factchecker believes he may have discovered something strange that can only be resolved by seeking the truth (whether that’s in lines of copy or sidewalk grooves in a post-9/11 NYC) from the Gowanus Canal to the Financial District.
Kelley’s debut is a humorous, unusual story told from a narrator whose grip on reality may not be so tight (not always best for a Factchecker…) We love a witty, weird New York story and this one is sort of giving us BRIGHT LIGHTS BIG CITY vibes, which is one of our all time favorites. (At the time of publication, BRIGHT LIGHTS is sold out on Bookshop but it’s a great novel to buy used because it has so many fun covers! Look for it at your local library too.)
